DU students urged not to organize mass wedding, spread rumours

The Dhaka University administration has requested students not to hold a mass wedding, previously announced by some students staying at Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall, or spread rumours about it.

DU’s Office of Public Relations released a press statement on Monday, saying news regarding a mass wedding event being organized in different dorms had been circulating on Facebook and some media outlets.

It said the university had taken notice of this, clarifying that no such event had been approved and neither had the authorities been officially notified.

The public relations office said DU, as an academic institution, had no role in such social events considering its traditional values and the current overall situation.

It mentioned that this initiative was purely personal for the students involved.

The university urged everyone concerned to refrain from organizing, promoting or spreading rumours about such events, reminding that the university was a place for academic pursuits.
