Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud has said that in the past, particularly when a particular party was in power, there was always a network of their affiliated teachers, from which individuals would be appointed as vice-chancellors.
"There is no opportunity for this now. We are currently gathering information from known teachers across various universities."
Regarding the qualifications of vice-chancellors, the education adviser stated: “We are compiling a list of teachers who are recognized for their educational qualifications, personality, and administrative skills. We will appoint vice-chancellors to the universities as soon as possible.”
In 2020, The Education Ministry decided to form a pool of candidates from which the vacant posts of vice-chancellor (VC), pro-VC, and treasurer in the country’s universities (both public, and private) will be filled.
Later, the University Grants Commission (UGC) recommended the formulation of specific policies for the recruitment of vice-chancellors of universities so that the recruitment process is completely transparent and to appoint eminent academics and researchers as vice-chancellors.
