Dr Mohammad Fakhrul Islam appointed secretary of UGC

Dr Mohammad Fakhrul Islam, formerly the director of the Research Support and Publication Division at the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, has been appointed as secretary.

In a corresponding move, Dr Ferdous Zaman, the outgoing secretary, has been appointed as the new director of the Research Support and Publication Division at the UGC.

The transfer and appointment orders were officially announced on Sunday.

Dr Fakhrul Islam has assumed his new role as secretary as of Sunday afternoon.

Dr Fakhrul Islam has previously held several key positions within the commission, including joint secretary and director.

He earned his Master’s, MPhil, and PhD degrees from the Department of English at the University of Dhaka and a diploma in English Language Teaching (ELT) from a university in the United Kingdom.

He has authored three published books.

Additionally, Dr Fakhrul Islam has undertaken advanced training under various prestigious fellowships, including MTCP (Malaysia), NAFIC (Netherlands), SIDA (Sweden), SCP (Singapore), and SDC.
