The teachers of Jahangirnagar University on Thursday began the observance of month of mourning, commemorating the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members in 1975, through various programs.
Vice Chancellor Prof Md Nurul Alam inaugurated the day’s programs in front of the new administrative building at 10:30am.
A one-minute silence was observed to pay respect to the memory of all the martyrs of the language movement of 1952, the great Liberation War of 1971, the martyrs of August 15, 1975, and all the democratic movements of the country.
The VC said: “Wearing the black badge is a symbol of our grief. Through this, we remember the Father of the Nation and all the martyrs in his family. I pay my deepest respect to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest hero of the country’s Liberation War, Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, and the family members of Bangabandhu. I wish for the salvation of their souls.”
He called upon all concerned to participate in various programs undertaken by the university authorities.
