Professor Dr Sadeka Halim, the vice chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU), has announced that all the teachers, students, and staff of the university will be brought under health insurance coverage.
The VC said this during a condolence meeting and doa mahfil organized by the university's teachers' association for the untimely demise of Dr Shilpi Khanom, a professor of the Bangla department.
She stated that health insurance was introduced at Dhaka University not long ago. Not only teachers and staff but also students are covered under the insurance at DU.
“We will also bring the teachers, students, officials, and employees under health insurance coverage. Health insurance is necessary for our students as well, because of the hardships they endure. If they fall seriously ill, the problems become even more severe. Every day, letters requesting assistance arrive. We try to help as much as possible, but there is not much funding. Therefore, health insurance is necessary. We will discuss the health insurance further and approve it through the syndicate.”
Sadeka Halim also mentioned: "The standard of food in the university's cafeteria and dormitory canteen is poor. Changes are needed in these areas.”
“I urge the teachers to pay special attention to our students. We need to create a favourable environment for students to study well.”
At that time, she said that Jagannath University would always stand by the family of Professor Shilpi Khanom.
At the event, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, deans of various faculties, directors of institutes, departmental chairpersons, the proctor, directors of various offices, Acting President of Jagannath University Teachers' Association Professor Dr Md Momin Uddin, General Secretary Dr Sheikh Masrick Hasan, as well as teachers, students, officers, and employees from various departments, were present.
