A human chain was formed under the banner of “Socheton Obibabok Somaj,” denouncing the new education curriculum as detrimental to the intelligence, education, and morals of young children.
Speakers expressed their concerns during the human chain event organized at the National Press Club on Friday.
Md Abu Muslim bin Hai, the convenor of Socheton Obibabok Somaj, read the written statement during the event.
In the statement, he mentioned that the proposed education curriculum assigns the power of evaluation to school teachers.
It is claimed that this move will lead to the decline of the coaching trade. However, critics argue that school teachers are now more empowered than ever to grow their coaching businesses. With no paper-based evidence in this evaluation system, challenging a teacher's assessment, even if it's at the lowest level, would not be possible for students or parents.
The statement also highlighted concerns about the distribution of total marks in examinations, where a significant portion is left to the teacher's evaluation, with only a small part allocated for actual reading or writing.
This, according to the convenor, could lead students away from the core educational content, resulting in certificates with zero knowledge and merit.
He further addressed the claim that the new curriculum would halt the guide business, stating that, in reality, it has increased. Previously, with the introduction of the creative method, teachers struggled to understand it, resorting to buying guides from the market for internal school examinations. This, in turn, encouraged students to purchase guides from specific companies, contributing to the growth of the guide business.
The human chain saw the participation of parents from various schools in Dhaka.
