Sadeka Halim appointed as Jagannath University vice chancellor

Professor Sadeka Halim has been appointed as the vice chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU).

Currently serving as the chairperson of the Department of Sociology at Dhaka University, Professor Halim's appointment was announced in a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Education on Thursday.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin made the appointment for the next four years.

The position of vice chancellor at Jagannath University became vacant following the passing of former vice chancellor Imdadul Hoque due to cancer.

Professor Sadeka Halim holds the distinction of being the country's first female information commissioner and has been a member of the National Education Policy Formulation Committee-2010.

She began her teaching career at Dhaka University in 1988 and earned her PhD from McGill University in Canada.

Notably, her father, Fazlul Halim Chowdhury, is a former vice chancellor of Dhaka University.
