BOU VC: Changing education quality would elevate us to developed world status

Bangladesh Open University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Humayun Akhtar has said that Bangladesh can reach the status of a developed world through qualitative changes in education.

"By creating knowledge in action-oriented education, we can deal with future risks," he said this while addressing a seminar at Bangladesh Open University’s (BOU) Gazipur campus as the chief guest on Thursday morning, says a press release.

"If the government successfully implements the mega projects, our pace of life will accelerate, and our GDP will increase," said Prime Minister's Principal Coordinator for SDG Affairs Md Akhter Hossain said.

"There is no alternative to foreign language and technical education for improving our quality of life. If we acquire proficiency in these areas, we will be able to attract more remittances from abroad. The government is steadfast in its commitment to enhance human welfare and realize Bangabandhu's vision of Sonar Bangla through the implementation of the SDGs," he added.

Additional Secretary (SDG Affairs) at the Prime Minister's Office Monirul Islam was the other resource sponsor at the seminar. 

He highlighted the government's plans for sustainable development goals, academic master plan and various activities including education. 

He said: “The work is underway on the best use of technology to implement smart education policy to bring efficiency to the education sector.”

BOU Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasrin presided over the seminar.
