The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) has introduced Bangla and Literature Department.
As the first university in Bangladesh, ULAB is now set to teach ethnic minority languages, according to a press release issued on Monday.
In an event titled as “Prothom Agomoni Gaan”, president of the Bangla Academy Selina Hossain announced the beginning of the department.
CourtesyChief guest Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed was present along with Selina Hossain, president of the Bangla Academy, special guest Subhangkar Dey Apu, director of Dey's Publication, writer and film director Chandril Bhattacharya, Imran Rahman, vice-chancellor of ULAB, and Prof Shamsad Mortuza, professor and special advisor (Board of Trustees), Department of English and Humanities (DEH), among others, spoke on the occasion.
The chief guest Abdullah Abu Sayeed said to the students: “If we practice Bangla, then you should be ready to do the necessary sacrifices in order to take Bangla to a new height. Only then you will succeed by studying in Bangla.”
Selina Hossain, said: “The day is of great significance as ULAB is inaugurating their Bangla Department. No other university has Bangla department. The day is of great joy to me.”
CourtesyIn the concluding speech, ULAB's Board of Trustee's special advisor, Prof Shamsad Mortuza, said: “Our English and Bangla Department will work in correlation. The knowledge Bangla department practices will also be published in English. Our students can study media studies or business or international relations whatever they may want. This practice doesn't limit knowledge.”
