IUB hosts Philip C Jessup Int’l Moot Court Competition

The closing ceremony and the final rounds of the 7th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of Philip C Jessup International Moot Court Competition, 2023 has been held recently at the Auditorium of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The final rounds were held on February 11, said a press release issued on Wednesday. 

This year's qualifying round has experienced the highest number of participation with 32 universities competing directly and 8 universities attending with observer status. 

The chief guest of the closing program, Justice Naima Haider highly appreciated the Jessup Bangladesh for organizing moot court competitions like this.

She expressed hope that the success stories of girls would continue throughout their professional life as well.

 IUB's Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, presided over the function.

The Competition came to an end with Dhaka University emerging as the champion and Chittagong University as the runners-up. 

Because of her outstanding performance, Oishee Rahman from Dhaka University was recognized as the ‘Best Mooter' of the competition. 

Chittagong University team was awarded 'Best Memorial Award', while Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University's team was the recipient of the award as the ‘Best New Team'. 

Furthermore, Islamic University, Kushtia and Cox's Bazar International University jointly honored the spirit of the competition through achieving the 'Spirit of the Jessup' award. 

The best four teams of the advanced rounds (University of Dhaka, Chittagong University, State University of Bangladesh, and University of Asia Pacific) will proceed to compete in the White & Case International Rounds to be held in the United States between April 8-17, 2023.

Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and the Attorney General for Bangladesh Senior Advocate AM Amin Uddin graced the closing event as the special guests. 

Stephanie Korzantes, the program director of International Law Students Association (ILSA), extended her gratitude to all involved through a video message. 

Christopher Howard, Resident Legal Advisor, OPDAT-US Department of Justice, and Professor Borhan Uddin Khan, Advisor of IUB Law Department, were also present at the event.

 Nuran Chowdhury, Coordinator of ILSA Bangladesh Chapter, and Ifran Hossain Mollah, National Administrator of Jessup International Law Moot Court 2023-Bangladesh Qualifying Round, also delivered speeches during the event.
