Albert Smith Bala, a Christian student from Kushtia who took the SSC exam at night, got Golden GPA-5.
The results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were released on Monday afternoon.
Albert is a student of the English version of Sun Up International School in Kushtia city.
During the SSC examinations, on days besides Saturdays, Albert participated in the exam with his peers during the day.
Albert's father, Suklal Bala who is a Christian pastor, is happy with his son's accomplishments.
“I was quite concerned about my son because of the night-time exams. I prayed to God for my son to do well and I'm overjoyed with my son's outcomes,” he said.
He added that he now hopes to enrol his son in Dhaka's Notre Dame College.
Albert said: “According to our religious rituals, we are not allowed to study till sunset on Saturdays. Thus, on Saturdays, I entered the centre in the morning with other students and stayed in a separate room. Lunch was brought from home and there are amenities for resting. I used to sit in the centre room all day and gave the exam in the evening.”
He added: "Receiving Golden GPA-5 makes me extremely pleased. In future, I want to become an engineer.”
Kazi Samsun Nahar Alo, the principal of Kushtia Sunup International School said: “Albert Smith Bala, a member of the Christian sect known as "Seventh Day Adventist," participated in the SSC examination this year from a centre at Kushtia High School. He received a Golden GPA- 5. We are extremely pleased with his result.”
Albert took the exams of SSC Bengali Second Paper, Physical Science and Higher Mathematics held on Saturday under Jessore Education Board at night.
In 2019, a student named Ricky Halder also sit for the history exam under Jessore Board at night instead of the day. He also belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church. His examination was conducted at Kumarkhali MN High School Centre in Kushtia.
