Rumours spreading through social media about schools and colleges being closed over the monkeypox outbreak in Bangladesh are untrue, the Education Ministry has said.
The notification, containing fake signatures of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni is not from the ministry, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Abu Bakar Siddique told Bangla Tribune.
“I have seen several posts about it a few days ago. The notification is fake, as there are no links attached to it. We have already alerted the law enforcement agencies about it,” he said.
The fake notification, which has been circulating on several social media platforms, says that educational institutions will be shut down from June 1 to 29 for the monkeypox outbreak in the country.
On May 23, another rumor about monkeypox began to circulate on social media, about a possible patient found at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Later, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed discredited the allegations.
