HSC, equivalent exams: Results likely to be published next week

The authorities expect to publish the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams next week.

“We hope that the results will be published between February 12 and 14,” Exams Controller SM Amirul Islam of the Dhaka Education Board told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday.

The Inter-Education Board Coordination Sub Committee has already forwarded a proposal to the education ministry, according to the official.

Ministry officials said that a summary of the proposal has been forwarded to the prime minister’s office for approval.

The results are likely be announced at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka's Segunbagicha, like last year.  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the programme via video conference from Ganabhaban, they said.

About 1.4 million students from 9,183 institutions took the HSC and equivalent exams, held between December 2 and 30, after a delay of nearly eight months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The pandemic has prevented students from taking many in-person classes and the exams were adjusted accordingly.

This year’s HSC candidate were not tested on 12 subjects. The assessments consisted of six papers from the shortened syllabuses of three elective subjects.

Students got one and a half hours to finish the exams instead of the usual three.

Compulsory subjects, such as Bangla and English, have been assessed based on students’ performance in previous public exams.
