Examinations at the National University and seven colleges affiliated to the Dhaka University will be held in-person, maintaining the health safety protocols, despite the government extending the shutdown of educational institutions by two more weeks.
Exams of Open University and Islamic Arabic University will proceed on schedule. "In-person tests will be held in compliance with health-safety rules," MA Khair, public relations officer of the Education Ministry, told UNB on Thursday.
On January 21, the National University announced the suspension of all its examinations until further notice amid the recent spike in coronavirus cases.
Bangladesh is seeing coronavirus rising after the new Omicron variant spread across the country in January. Health authorities have been reporting over 10,000 new infections almost every day since January 20.
Under the circumstances, the government announced that all educational institutions would be closed from January 21 to February 6, asking universities to follow the directive. On Wednesday, the government extended the closure by two more weeks to February 20.
In 2020, Bangladesh had shut down all education institutes amid the restrictions imposed in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
In-person classes resumed in the educational institutions in September 2021, after a shutdown of a year and half. Public exams for the tenth and twelfth graders — the SSC and HSC tests — were also held.
