JnU budget crosses Tk100cr threshold for first time

The authorities of Jagannath University (JnU) approved a budget of Tk104.56 crore for the 2017-18 fiscal year on Thursday. The budget has been approved at the 51st meeting of the finance committee presided over by Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman, vice-chancellor of the university, a press release said. JnU syndicate members, Prof Farhad Uddin Ahmed, a teacher of the economics department at Dhaka University (DU), Joint Secretary (University) of Education Ministry Md Belayet Hossain Talukder and Director (Finance and Accounts) of University Grants Commission Md Mizanur Rahman and others were present at the meeting. The university authorities thanked the prime minister, education minister and UGC chairman for allocating more than Tk100cr for the first time since the age-old academic institution started its journey as a public university in 2005. Tk1.40 crore has been allocated for research sector with a 120% increase compared to last year. Besides, the budget for seminars and conferences at the university has been shot up by 300% while the budget for students’ scholarship raised by 200% compared to the previous year. A required amount has been also allocated to buy five new buses with 52 seats for commuting the university students. Procurement of chemical products and scientific equipments sees an 82% rise and the allocation for academic education materials has been increased by 275% in the new budget.
