Muhith: Govt primary school headmasters will get pay adjusted soon

Finance Minister AMA Muhith assured government primary school headmasters that their pay would be adjusted to the new scale soon, as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s directive. Headmasters claimed that they had received lower salaries than their assistant headmasters due to the delay in implementing the adjustment at their level, said the minister. The finance minister made the statements after a meeting with the headmasters of government primary schools at the Finance Ministry auditorium in the secretariat on Monday. A special committee to be formed, along with the implementation wing of the Finance Ministry, will sit with primary school teachers association leaders to resolve the issue, Muhith added. Central committee Chairman of Bangladesh Government Primary School Teachers Association Md Abdul Aawal Thaulkdar also attended the meeting. Primary and Mass Education minister Mustafizur Rahman told reporters that the problem would be solved as soon as the government completes required procedures. If necessary, those shorted will be provided with arrears, Mustafizur added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had announced the promotion of government primary school headmasters to second-class gazetted officials on March 9, 2014. However, they are still being paid as Class-III government employees, as the public administration ministry is yet to give its approval.
