Nowfel: Private universities should focus on research

Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said most private universities are not playing their due role in creating knowledge through research.

He said that these universities are thinking on commercial lines, but they should dedicate themselves to research.

Barrister Nowfel said, though some institutions had contributed to higher education, many were lagging behind.

The deputy minister said this while addressing the second convocation ceremony of Premier University as its chief guest on Sunday.

Nowfel said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on assuming power in 2008, enacted the Private University Act which allowed us to guide the private universities.

Mentioning the students’ role, the deputy minister said that in developed countries, Alumni facilitate the job placement of students.

Despite the difference of opinions among students, we all should unite for the cause of education, he said.
