AIUB holds 16th convocation

The 16th convocation of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) was held yesterday at the university’s own plot in Uttara.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid presided over the ceremony and conferred the degrees to the graduating students as authorised by the president and chancellor, Abdul Hamid.

University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan was the special guest, while Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Hanne Fugl Eskjær was the convocation speaker.

A total 2,517 graduates were conferred degrees for successful completion of bachelors and masters degree programs of the AIUB.

Three top students received the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, 10 were awarded the Dr Anwarul Abedin Leadership Award and 15 received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award.

Congratulating the graduating students, Minister Nahid stressed on quality higher education in the country’s universities for facing the competitive global market.

He said priority should be given to science and IT, engineering and technical education to fulfil the government’s commitment of building a digital Bangladesh.

Nahid also urged students to use their knowledge to contribute to national development.
