Rajshahi students have emerged as the best in this year’s Junior School Certificate exams with a whopping 97.46% passing rate, the highest among the country’s education boards.
The number of GPA-5 achievers was also higher than before – 35,083 students getting the top score compared to last year’s 23,606 students.
Exam Controller Shamsul Kalam Azad announced the JSC results at the Rajshahi Education Board office yesterday afternoon, saying 218,084 of the appearing 223,754 students passed this year.
A total 1,415 schools under the Rajshahi board saw 100% passing rate.
Azad added that credit for the improved results should also go to the teachers who had better preparations this year.
The education board put pressure on each school to perform better, the exam controller said, adding that senior officials of the board exchanged views with teachers, students and parents to encourage better results.
Meanwhile, the consistently performing PN School and Collegiate High School of Rajshahi city also came up with nearly flawless results this year, with almost all the students there scoring GPA-5 in both Primary and Junior School Certificate exams.
In the PSC exam, the PN School saw 225 of its 227 appearing students get the top grade, while 174 of 176 students of Collegiate High School got GPA-5.
In the JSC exam, 205 of the 214 PN School students scored GPA-5, while 178 of 185 students of Collegiate High School earned the highest grade.
Dr Nurjahan Begum, principal of Collegiate High School, told the Dhaka Tribune that they would continue to try and outperform this year’s results in the next PSC and JSC exams.
