The Bangladesh Muktijodha Sangshad protested derogatory comments, told against CU VC, at a press conference held at Engineer Abdul Khalek auditorium of Chittagong Press Club.
Commander of Bangladesh Muktijodha Sangshad Freedom Fighter Abu Taher read out a written statement at the press conference.
Abu Taher at the written speech said Prof Arif was a real freedom fighter adding that allegations brought against him was fabricated and baseless.
The person, Mohammed Idris who lead the so called organisation of freedom fighters’ Muktijoddha Odhikar Sangrakkhon Parishad, had been leading his life through extortion and other illegal processes using freedom fighters’ name, added Abu Taher.
The freedom fighter said as Mohammed Idris failed to realise his illegal demands from Prof Arif; he had held the press conference to raise question about Prof Arif’s activities.
“We want to clear it before everybody that Prof Arif was really a freedom fighter and his role during Liberation War has been remained forever”, he added.
Earlier, Muktijoddha Odhikar Sangrakkhon Parishad holding a press conference at the same venue on Monday termed Prof Arif as a fake freedom fighter and protesting his ‘corruptions and anomalies’ at Chittagong University.
President of District (south) Sector Commanders’ Forum Mohammed Idris on Monday’s press conference said Prof Anwarul Azim Arif was a fake freedom fighter as he did not accomplish or carry out any kind of battle during Liberation War in 1971. Professor Anwarul Azif Arif was taken the charge of the university as 16th VC on June 14 in 2011 while his tenure will be ended in next month.
