DMP issues safety directives for hotels while taking in boarders

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a string of safety directives for all hotels in the city to follow while registering new boarders. The move, which aims to stop militants from easily checking into the hotels, comes five days after a New JMB member blew himself up at the Hotel Olio International at Panthapath on August 15 during a police raid. The statement with eight directives, signed by DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, was issued on Sunday.

It said information of all tenants living in Dhaka has been stored in the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS) server and that has helped police in curbing criminal and militant activities in the residential areas. But militants and criminals can very easily get entry in the hotels as these establishments neither check their personal information nor conduct body and luggage searches. The DMP claimed that if such searches were conducted at Hotel Olio when the militant checked in, he would not have been able to take shelter there with the plan to launch a bomb attack. This article was first published on Bangla Tribune
