Law enforcement agencies remain on high alert in Mirpur-11 following protests by garment workers demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area, with officers patrolling roads and preventing gatherings on streets and sidewalks.
The heightened security measures have been in place since Thursday morning.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jalal Uddin said the workers had not taken to the streets on Thursday, but police remained prepared to respond to any situation.
“The workers have not taken to the streets today; however, we remain on alert. Additional police have been deployed, and patrols are being conducted. The situation remains normal,” he said.
On November 1, garment workers blocked roads in Mirpur to press their demand for a minimum monthly wage of Tk30,000. Clashes and chases between workers and police continued intermittently from morning until afternoon.
At one point, a police vehicle was set on fire beneath the Mirpur-11 metro rail station. Police later detained several people from different parts of Mirpur in connection with the incident.
Workers also staged protests in Mirpur on Monday and Tuesday.
Similar demonstrations over the wage demand have taken place in Gazipur, Savar, Ashulia and Narayanganj, triggering clashes, disrupting production and forcing many factories to suspend operations.
Meanwhile, Taufiq Sheikh, a garment worker injured during the unrest in Gazipur, died at Shin-Shin Japan Hospital in Uttara, Dhaka, on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.
