The rally calls for concerted efforts to prevent child labour, end child marriage and gender-based discrimination, and protect girls from rights violations so that every girl can grow up in a safe and supportive environment.
Bangladesh Labour Foundation organised a rally in front of the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday to mark the International Day of the Girl Child 2026, being observed under the theme “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights”.
The rally highlights the need to ensure girls’ rights to education, play and a safe childhood, free from discrimination and exploitation.
Participants also draw attention to the challenges faced by girls engaged in child labour, many of whom are deprived of educational opportunities, recreation and other basic rights.
The 2026 theme was developed through consultations with girls, girls’ organisations and girl-led networks, as well as civil society organisations and United Nations partners, who called for urgent action to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.
