Police have arrested eight people for allegedly vandalizing an office and looting valuables in an attempt to take control of a property in the Satmasjid Housing area of Mohammadpur, Dhaka.
Mohammadpur police confirmed the arrests.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain confirmed the matter on Monday.
Police could not immediately provide the identities of those arrested.
The incident took place around 10am on Saturday at Chand Udyan Housing in the Beribadh area of Mohammadpur.
Zainal Abedin, who described himself as a victim of the incident, submitted a written complaint to Mohammadpur police station.
According to the complaint, around 100-150 unidentified people allegedly entered the second-floor office of Mohammadpur Twin Tower after breaking its doors, locks and windows.
They allegedly searched several rooms and a storeroom before taking Tk15 lakh in cash, five laptops, two air conditioners, three CCTV cameras, office furniture and other equipment. The items were allegedly loaded onto a truck.
Zainal alleged that Md Mostak Rahman Khokon Chowdhury, 62, along with Mohin, Prince and Alamin and the assistance of several local individuals, had been attempting to take control of the office for some time.
The complaint said the incident caused financial losses to the organization and raised concerns over the loss of important official documents and information.
It further alleged that the incident disrupted the office's normal operations and caused significant financial and administrative losses.
