Three buses were set on fire in separate incidents in Dhaka on Saturday evening, including two in Mirpur and another in Badda.
No one was injured in the incidents, according to police and the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A moving Shikhor Paribahan bus was set on fire in front of Zamzam Tower in Mirpur-11 at around 7:13pm.
“Miscreants set a bus on fire. It has been extinguished and there were no casualties,” Hasan Bashir, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pallabi police station, told Dhaka Tribune.
Two Fire Service units responded to the incident and brought the fire under control. Police were collecting CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved.
Around the same time, another bus of Abhijat Paribahan was set on fire in the Ansar Camp area of Mirpur-1.
Hafizur Rahman, OC of Mirpur police station, said the fire was quickly extinguished with the help of local residents and no one was injured.
Later, at around 8pm, an Alif Paribahan bus parked in front of a vehicle garage in Central Badda was set on fire, police said.
According to police, unidentified people set fire to the rear of the bus before fleeing. Local residents quickly extinguished the fire.
The incidents came a day after a series of crude bomb explosions were reported in several parts of the capital following Friday prayers.
Two crude bombs exploded in front of the Shohagh bus counter in Malibagh, while explosions were also reported in front of Betar Bhaban in Agargaon, in the Mohakhali area, beneath Babubazar Bridge and at Moghbazar intersection.
Several crude bombs exploded in front of the main gate of Jatrabari police station and shortly afterward in front of the Jatrabari intersection traffic box, injuring an autorickshaw driver, Ibadur Rahman.
Crude bomb explosions were also reported in front of the BTV Bhaban in Rampura and Dhaka College in the New Market area later that night.
Police have filed cases with several police stations over the incidents but have yet to identify those responsible.
Against the backdrop of the incidents, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has strengthened security across the city. Checkpoints have been set up at key points, flyovers and entry routes, while police patrols and surveillance have also been increased.
