An unidentified man was killed after being struck by a moving train in the Karwan Bazar area of the capital Friday night.
The accident occurred around 11:30pm as the man was crossing the railway tracks behind Karwan Bazar, according to Kader, a raw-material trader in the area who helped rescue him.
Kader said the man was seriously injured after being hit by the train and was lying on the tracks. He and another passer-by rescued the man and took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 12:30am.
Doctors on duty examined him and declared him dead, he said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
“The matter has been informed to the concerned police station,” he said, adding that efforts to identify the deceased and complete the legal procedures are underway.
