Law enforcement agencies have strengthened security measures across the country, particularly in Dhaka and several key districts, marking the founding anniversary of the banned Awami League.
Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Army personnel have been deployed to prevent sabotage, unrest, and any untoward incidents.
The government has placed special emphasis on security in Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Gopalganj, and Faridpur.
According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), more than 18,000 police personnel have been deployed at key locations across the capital since Tuesday morning.
The DMP's Media and Public Relations Division said special security measures have been taken citywide. More than 200 strategic locations have been placed under heightened surveillance, with police pickets and checkpoints set up throughout the city. Security checks at entry points to Dhaka have also been intensified.
Alongside regular police, members of the Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, Special Branch (SB), and Intelligence and Analysis Division (IAD) are conducting intelligence and security operations.
Fifteen Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been kept on standby across the capital to respond to emergencies, while reserve forces have been stationed at four major DMP control rooms.
Tight security at Dhanmondi 32
Security has been significantly increased around Dhanmondi 32, with barricades placed on surrounding roads and members of various law enforcement agencies deployed in the area.
DMP Additional Commissioner SN Nazrul Islam visited the area on Tuesday morning and said police were on maximum alert to prevent any form of sabotage or untoward incident during the Awami League's founding anniversary and the holy month of Muharram.
"A sufficient number of law enforcement personnel have been deployed at important locations in the capital. Members of the BGB and the Army are also carrying out duties in Dhaka and surrounding districts," he said.
