A devastating fire broke out at a slum in Kalshi under Mirpur in Dhaka on Monday evening, prompting a major firefighting and emergency response operation.
Ten units of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence are working to bring the blaze under control, while personnel from Bangladesh Police and the Bangladesh Army have been deployed to manage crowds and maintain order.
According to the Fire Service control room, the fire was reported at 7:23pm, and firefighters reached the scene and began operations at 7:32pm.
Despite more than an hour of continuous efforts, the fire remains uncontained, with residents reporting that flames are spreading to nearby structures. The incident has also caused severe traffic congestion in surrounding areas.
Officials said four units from Pallabi and Mirpur stations initially responded, later reinforced by six additional units from Mirpur and Kurmitola, bringing total deployment to ten.
Local residents and responders said the fire’s intensity has been increasing, with water shortages hampering firefighting efforts.
As of the latest update, firefighters, volunteers, and locals are continuing efforts to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
