Five of family injured in Kadamtali house fire

Five members of a family, including three children, suffered burn injuries in a fire at a house in the Kadamtali area of the capital on Sunday morning.

The victims were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

The injured are vegetable seller Kalam, 47, his wife Salma, 35, son Munna, 12, and daughters Munni, 10, and Katha, 5.

They lived on the ground floor of a nine-storey building in the Giridhara area near Saddam Market under Kadamtali police station. Their ancestral home is in the Barukdia area of Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali.

Rescuer Rakib said the victims were rescued in a burnt condition after authorities received information about the incident early in the morning.

Quoting Salma, he said the family members had been asleep at the time of the incident. Later, when Kalam attempted to light the stove for cooking in the morning, a fire broke out with a loud explosion.

The family somehow managed to escape from the house, he added.

Dr Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said all five victims were receiving treatment in the emergency department.
