Heavy rain swept across parts of Dhaka on Wednesday evening, following a day of sweltering heat and humid conditions.
In its 9am forecast for the next 24 hours, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning.
In its inland river ports forecast valid until 1am, the BMD said temporary gusty or squally winds with rain or thundershowers may sweep over Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Tangail, Faridpur, Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram and Sylhet regions from the west or northwest at 45–60 kilometres per hour.
River ports in those areas have been advised to hoist Signal-1.
