Zahed: DCs call for policy to regulate entry into journalism

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has said that Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have called for a policy framework to regulate entry into journalism, adding that the ministry is also considering introducing guidelines and a code of conduct in this regard.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a session on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the final day of the four-day Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Discussions focused on the rapidly expanding digital media landscape, where it has become easier to launch online news platforms.

He said DCs observed that the growth of online media has, in some cases, created challenges due to the absence of clear policy guidelines. They therefore suggested a framework to define entry into journalism, along with a professional code of conduct for journalists.

The adviser added that the ministry is considering introducing both a policy framework and regulatory guidelines in this regard in the near future.
