The Amar Ekushey Book Fair is set to open on February 26, but organizers will not set up any pavilions this year to accommodate over 300 participating publishers.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the book fair at 2pm on the day.
The decision was made Sunday night at a meeting of the Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association (BAPUS) leaders, held at the Bangla Academy.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayyam, Ministry Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman, Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam, and Secretary Dr Md Selim Reza attended the meeting.
It was decided that no pavilion will be included in Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026. Publishers who had previously received pavilions have agreed, with BAPUS support, to remove them.
A lottery for stall allocation was held at 10pm. on Sunday for publishers who applied by February 19. Stall construction is scheduled to begin on Monday.
Earlier, the Minister and State Minister for Cultural Affairs had announced a complete waiver of stall fees for the fair.
