Hasan Mollah, 45, general secretary of the Hazratpur Union unit of BNP, has died after being shot in Hazratpur, Keraniganj, Dhaka, police said.
He passed away around 3:45 pm on Saturday at Holy Family Hospital while receiving treatment, said Keraniganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Islam.
The OC told the Dhaka Tribune: “The BNP leader died this afternoon while receiving treatment. No case has been filed yet in connection with the incident. Operations are underway to arrest those involved.”
On Thursday, unidentified assailants opened fire on Mollah in front of the Ward-9 BNP office in Jagannathpur village of Hazratpur Union. He was critically injured and initially taken to Square Hospital in Dhaka. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later admitted to Holy Family Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Following Mollah’s death, local residents and party leaders expressed grief and anger over his death.
