Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday announced that maximum security measures will be ensured across the capital during the upcoming observance of the holy Ashura and the Tazia or mourning processions, to maintain discipline and uphold the solemnity of the religious event.
Authorities also urged everyone to remain vigilant to avoid any untoward incidents during the period.
These details were shared during a coordination meeting on Ashura security held at the DMP headquarters, presided over by DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali.
At the meeting, Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a presentation.
Following the presentation, an open discussion took place where leaders of Tazia or mourning procession committees, representatives from various service and intelligence agencies, and senior DMP officials shared their opinions and suggestions.
The DMP commissioner said that the police administration will ensure maximum security during both the holy Ashura and the Hindu festival of Ulta Rath Yatra.
He expressed hope that members of both communities would cooperate and work together with mutual respect and communal harmony to ensure the events proceed peacefully.
Addressing the organizers of the Tazia processions, the DMP commissioner requested them to ensure an adequate number of volunteers are deployed to maintain order in the processions.
He added that the police would be responsible for maintaining overall law and order and managing traffic.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam said that the Hindu religious festival Rath Yatra will be held on July 5.
He urged everyone to do their part in preventing any untoward incidents.
He also emphasized the importance of installing video cameras from the beginning of the Tazia processions to prevent any unwanted activities.
