Man publicly hacked in Central Road

A video showing a young man being hacked in public at night on Dhaka’s Central Road has gone viral on social media.

The footage shows the victim being attacked in full view of bystanders—none of whom stepped in to help.

The injured man has been identified as Saif Hossain Munna, though further details about him remain unknown.

CCTV footage reveals the incident occurred around 11:30pm on Sunday. A youth wearing a T-shirt and pants was standing on the roadside with another man in a shirt. As a motorcycle approached, the man in the shirt suddenly threw the other to the ground. Two individuals then arrived on the motorcycle—one of them, seated at the back and also in a shirt, began attacking the victim with a sharp weapon. The helmeted rider also joined the assault.

Despite the victim’s screams, no one from the crowd nearby came to his aid. Numerous pedestrians, private cars, autorickshaws, and motorcycles continued to pass by during the attack. At 11:32:45pm, the attackers were seen fleeing the scene on the same motorcycle.

New Market Zone Assistant Commissioner Tariq Latif said no formal complaint has been filed yet. Police have inspected the scene and are working to identify the attackers and take legal action.
