TNZ Group workers resume sit-in in front of Srom Bhaban

Demanding payment of all dues, including wages and bonuses, workers of TNZ Group have once again staged a sit-in in front of Srom Bhaban in Bijoynagar, Dhaka.

The protest began around 3pm on Sunday, with workers occupying roads near the building.

The protesters are employed at eight garment factories of the TNZ Group located in Gazipur.

Labour leader Shahidul Islam said the factory authorities had promised to clear the arrears before Eid-ul-Fitr. As they failed to keep that promise, the workers have returned to the streets, he added.

He said a protest march was to begin shortly and declared the day’s demonstration to be their final movement.

“If we face any obstruction, tougher programs will follow,” he said.

Leaders and activists from various organisations, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), are expected to join the demonstration in solidarity.

Earlier, ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the TNZ Group workers staged a sit-in for seven consecutive days in front of Srom Bhaban.

The protest was suspended after the authorities assured them their demands would be met.
