Bin Yamin Mollah, president of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad said that they will be compelled to take to the streets with the university studemts if the university administration does not immediately announce a specific date of Ducsu election.
“If any invisible force tries to influence the administration and sabotage the election, we will expose their true face before the students of Dhaka University,” he added.
Bin Yamin also demanded that the Ducsu election be included in the academic calendar as a regular event. “Holding the Ducsu election is essential to free the university from the chains of partisan, subservient politics,” he added.
He made the remarks at a press conference organized by the organization in front of the Ducsu building.
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad held the press conference demanding that an acceptable, participatory Ducsu election be held by June and that a specific timeframe be announced within May.
A specific political group is trying to delay the Ducsu election until after the national polls in a bid to control students and misuse power, similar to the previous regime, alleged Bin Yamin Mollah.
“Elections are only allowed when the campus environment appears favourable to them, as seen under the previous repressive regime,” said Bin Yamin, adding that political parties either in power or poised to assume power have always manipulated the timing of Ducsu elections to serve their own interests.
“Although the Ducsu election timeline was announced yesterday, no specific date for the election was mentioned, which has raised doubts among students,” he said.
Present at the event were the organisation’s central president, the convenor and member secretary of the Dhaka University unit, along with leaders from various levels of the organisation.
Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad has called on Dhaka University authorities to announce a specific date for the upcoming Ducsu election, warning they would mobilize students in protest if their demands aren't met.
At a press conference held outside the Ducsu building, the organization's central committee president Bin Yamin Mollah said: "If any invisible force tries to influence the administration and sabotage the election, we will expose their true face before the students of Dhaka University."
The student group is demanding that an acceptable, participatory Ducsu election be scheduled by June, with a definite timeframe announced within May. They also called for the inclusion of Ducsu elections in the university's academic calendar as a regular event.
"Holding the Ducsu election is essential to free the university from the chains of partisan, subservient politics," Mollah emphasized.
Despite the university's recent announcement of an election timeline, the absence of specific dates has fueled skepticism among students. Mollah alleged that a particular political faction is attempting to postpone the Ducsu election until after national polls to maintain control over students.
"Elections are only allowed when the campus environment appears favourable to them, as seen under the previous repressive regime," he said, adding that political parties either in power or poised to assume power have consistently manipulated Ducsu election timing for political advantage.
The press conference was attended by several key figures from the organization, including the Dhaka University unit's convenor and member secretary, along with various other organizational leaders.
