A group of DU Fine Arts Faculty's current and former students demanded justice for Manabendra Ghosh's house getting burned, along with prosecution of the person responsible for burning 'Face of Fascist' motif earlier.
They made these demands at a press conference on Wednesday, around 5:30pm at the Fine Arts Faculty of DU.
This group of students earlier demanded the proper reason for changing the name of "Mongol Shobhajatra" to "Borshoboron Anondo Shobhajatra".
Jahid Jamil, a student of DU Fine Arts (session 2015–16), said those who once opposed the name change now stand in solidarity with artist Manabendra Ghosh, affirming that any assault on artistic expression will not be tolerated.
They don't solely want justice for this matter; rather, they want justice for every single matter, including the burning of "Face of Fascist" motif a few days ago.
They expressed hope that the interim government would recognise the urgency of resolving these issues.
Following the incident of setting fire to Manabendra Ghosh's house, which he described as tragic, current Fine Arts student Shimul Kumbhakar demanded justice, asking: "Why can't the government catch or bring the miscreants to justice?"
Regarding the burning of the "Face of Fascist" motif, he questioned why the suspect hasn't been arrested despite being under suspicion, saying: "We are calling for exemplary punishment for this incident as well as today's incident."
Eariler, around 2:30am on Wednesday a fire broke out at the Manikganj residence of artist Manabendra Ghosh, who made the tiger motif for the Borshoboron Anondo Shobhajatra.
The fire had destroyed his semi-concrete house in Garpara union and destroyed 30 of his sculptures.
He said that the fire had also gutted all the belongings in the house.
