Moving microbus catches fire in Hatirjheel

A fire broke out in a moving microbus in the capital’s Hatirjheel area, reportedly due to a gas cylinder explosion.  

Upon receiving reports of the fire on Tuesday, two units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived at the scene around 1pm to bring the blaze under control.

However, traffic congestion posed challenges in reaching the location promptly.  

According to fire service duty officer Rakibul Islam, the two units responded to the fire at approximately 1pm and immediately commenced firefighting efforts.

However, further details regarding the incident are yet to be ascertained.  

Witnesses reported that the fire erupted suddenly in a microbus on the Hatirjheel overpass, leading to the temporary suspension of vehicular movement in the affected area.  

As of now, no casualties have been reported.

Authorities have advised commuters to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.  

Regarding the incident, Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Raju said: “A fire broke out in a vehicle on the Metropolitan Bridge in Hatirjheel due to a mechanical malfunction. As a result, traffic movement on the bridge has been temporarily halted. However, no casualties have been reported.”
