A case has been filed over a shooting and robbery of gold trader Anwar Hossain in the capital’s Banasree area under Rampura police station.
The robbers looted 160 bhori (approximately 1.86 kg) of gold and Tk1 lakh in cash after shooting him.
On Monday, the victim’s wife, Hosne Ara, filed the case at Rampura police station, naming six to seven unidentified individuals as suspects.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura police station Mohammad Ataur Rahman Akand said the complaint filed by Anwar Hossain’s wife had been recorded as a case.
The case mentions six to seven unidentified suspects, along with details of the robbery involving approximately 160 bhori of gold and Tk1 lakh in cash.
Regarding the suspects' arrest, the OC said that CCTV footage from the crime scene and viral videos were being analyzed.
The police are actively working to identify and bring those involved to justice.
On Sunday, at around 10:30pm, a group of criminals attacked Anwar Hossain in front of house number 20, road 7, block D of Banasree.
They shot and stabbed him before fleeing with a large amount of gold and cash.
According to police and eyewitness reports, Anwar Hossain had closed his jewelry store, Alankar Jewellers, on road 5, block D, and was returning home on road 7.
As he reached his house, six to seven masked robbers on motorcycles surrounded him.
They first attempted to rob him at gunpoint, but when he resisted, they shot him and took his gold and cash before escaping.
Locals rescued the injured businessman and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he is currently receiving treatment.
The incident has caused panic among local traders in Banasree and nearby areas.
In response, law enforcement agencies have increased security surveillance to ensure safety.
