Former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East police station Md Mujibur Rahman has been arrested in the Dhaka University area.
Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the International Crimes Tribunal, he was apprehended on Sunday afternoon, confirmed Gazi Tamim Hasan, a prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal.
He said the warrant was issued against seven individuals, including two police officers, in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the mass uprising in Mohakhali, Rampura and Uttara.
Among them, Mujibur has now been taken into custody and is being brought before the tribunal.
Notably, on August 2, Mujibur was transferred from his position at Uttara East police station.
He was replaced by Shah Alam, an inspector (Investigation) from Shahbagh police station.
