Sheikh Mujib's name removed from DU dorm

Protesting students have removed the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Dhaka University.

A procession of students reached the dorm around midnight on Wednesday, subsequently removing Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's name from the main gate of the hall.

Later, they placed a banner on top that read, "Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall."

In addition, students also removed Sheikh Hasina's name, inscribed during the inauguration of the university's Amar Ekushey Hall.

Earlier, an attack on Bangabandhu’s Dhanmondi 32 residence followed an announcement that ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina – who fled to India in August amid protests – would be joining a virtual session with members of the banned organization Chhatra League.

In a fit of anger, protesting students also started vandalizing establishments bearing the names of Sheikh Mujib and Hasina across the country.
