Professor Asif Nazrul, law adviser in the interim government, has described a clash between Dhaka University (DU) and its seven college students as an unfortunate incident.
On Monday, he made this comment while responding to journalists' questions after a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.
In response to journalists' questions, he said: “These incidents are unfortunate. We will try to take more proactive measures to avoid such occurrences. We will focus on solutions to resolve these issues.”
On the other hand, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali said the clashes between the students were handled with patience.
He added: “To control the situation, we used sound grenades and tear gas as needed. Otherwise, the situation could have escalated into a bloody conflict. We hope the situation will return to normal by the end of the day.”
Earlier, the students of the seven affiliated colleges gave a four-hour ultimatum to Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed to resign.
