Students of Jagannath University (JnU) organized a human chain in the Shaheed Minar premises at 12pm on Sunday, protesting the harassment of Riazul Islam, a student of JnU and secretary of the student organization Shibir, by a leader of the Sohrawardy College unit of Chhatra Dal.
During the protest, Siyam, a student from the Department of Islamic Studies at JnU, said: "As students of Jagannath University, the harassment of one of our peers is a matter of shame. We are holding this human chain to demand a fair investigation and justice for this incident. If these demands are not met, we will hold both the college administration and the students responsible for this act accountable. We strongly condemn this incident and demand justice."
Another student, Masud Rana, added: "Last evening, Riazul was harassed by a Sohrawardy College Chhatra Dal leader. Previously, Chhatra League has displayed similar audacity, and now another organization is trying to follow suit."
He further said that since August 5, it was observed that one group has been behaving as if they own the space, restricting others from accessing the campus.
It was suggested that Chhatra Dal should reflect on the consequences of their actions.
