Gulshan police OC suspended over delay in robbery probe

Gulshan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhid Ahmed has been suspended for alleged negligence in investigating a robbery case.

Tarek Mahmud, deputy commissioner of the Gulshan Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter on Sunday.

He attributed the suspension to a delay in probing the robbery, saying an investigation into the matter was underway.

Following the suspension, Mahmudur Rahman, OC of Kadamtali police station, was assigned as the new OC of Gulshan police.

According to a police officer from the DMP Gulshan Division, the robbery took place on January 11 on Road 29 of Gulshan Avenue. The assailants, posing as members of a joint task force, raided the residence of a businessman.

The officer, citing the businessman, said the robbers had made off with cash amounting to Tk46 lakh, 60 bhoris of gold jewellery and other valuables.

Despite repeated attempts to file a case, the businessman had failed to do so at the police station for several days, the officer said.

“Eventually, he reported the matter to senior officials of the DMP, which led to the OC’s suspension.”
