A group of 6,531 candidates, recommended in the 2023 recruitment exam for the position of assistant teacher in government primary schools, have demanded immediate appointments.
The demand was raised during a human chain organized in front of the National Press Club on Tuesday.
These candidates were selected in the third phase of the recruitment process.
During the human chain, the speakers highlighted that the recruitment for primary assistant teachers in 2023 was conducted in three phases.
While the final recruitment process for the first and second phases, as well as appointments from the waiting list, have been completed, the recruitment process for the third phase remains unresolved.
The advertisement for this phase was released on June 14, 2023, and the written exam was held on March 29, 2024. The results of the written exam were published on April 21, and the viva was completed on June 12.
However, those who were not recommended filed a writ petition in the High Court on June 31, leading to a six-month suspension of the recruitment process for the 6,531 candidates.
Despite four hearings in the Chamber Judge's Court, the Appellate Division, and the High Court, no resolution has been reached, leaving the candidates in limbo.
The candidates further mentioned that in November 2024, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued recruitment orders for school postings on December 5, and for district education offices on December 8.
Medical tests were conducted at the respective district civil surgeons, and the necessary documents were submitted to the district education offices.
In some districts and upazilas, a few candidates who were recommended even received their joining letters. However, despite being selected, they are unable to join their posts, causing them social humiliation.
