Huge cigarette shipment seized at Dhaka Airport

Customs authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have seized cigarettes and banned creams worth approximately Tk22 lakh.

The seizures were made on Thursday in the afternoon and at night.

Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Preventive Team Iftikhairul Islam confirmed the information.

He said that acting on a tip-off, they learned that foreign cigarettes were being smuggled on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dubai.

Subsequently, 650 cartons of foreign cigarettes, 65kg of Gori cream containing high levels of mercury and hydroquinone, 100kg of cosmetics, and 10 Samsung mobile phones were seized from multiple passengers.

The estimated market value of the seized items is Tk21.7 lakh.

Iftikhairul Islam further said that legal action has been taken regarding the matter.
