A prisoner named Sattar, also known as Hasan, 50, died early Wednesday morning while under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sattar was transferred from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj to the hospital on Tuesday, due to illness, as instructed by the prison authorities.
He passed away at 3:40am on Wednesday, January 8, while undergoing treatment.
The truth of the matter was confirmed by the in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, Inspector Mohammad Faruk, who mentioned that the body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
According to prison sources, Sattar was imprisoned for a robbery case under Dharmarai Police Station, case number 06(1)25, sections 394/397 of the Penal Code.
Sattar's ancestral home was in the village of Sayer Mondol in Goyaland, Rajbari.
His father was Yakub Bepari, who is now deceased.
