Due to security measures for the New Year celebrations, the Dhaka University metro rail station will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
As a result, the metro rail will not stop at the Dhaka University station on these two days.
The matter was communicated to the media by Md Iftekhar Hossain, general manager (Operations) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
The metro rail authorities sincerely apologize for the temporary inconvenience to passengers. However, the metro rail service at other stations will continue as per the current schedule on these days, he said.
The DU metro station was also closed for similar reasons on Victory Day and Christmas. According to DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, the decision to temporarily close the station on specific days was made because the station facilitates easier access for outsiders to the university.
During a press conference held at the proctor's office on December 8, the proctor said: “Dhaka University has six entry points, which can be closed if necessary. However, restricting outsider access through the metro rail station is not feasible.”
He further added: “Even if the university's entry points are closed, outsiders can still easily enter the campus via the metro station. For this reason, I proposed temporarily closing the station, which has already been approved.”
