Fireworks seller arrested in Shankhari Bazar ahead of new year

Police have arrested a fireworks seller in Shankhari Bazar, Old Dhaka, ahead of the upcoming 31st December celebrations.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali police station, Mohammad Yasin Shikdar, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

The arrested seller has been identified as Sanjit Dhar.

According to the OC, the arrest was made at midnight on Sunday based on a tip-off.

During the operation, various types of fireworks were recovered from the seller, including potkas (firecrackers), tarabatis (sparklers), crackers, jharna bati, chocolate bombs, rocket bombs, and other explosive materials, totaling 18.2 kilograms.

A case has been filed against him at Kotwali police station.

OC Mohammad Yasin Shikdar added that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure safety during the 31st December celebrations, under the directives of the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and the overall supervision of the deputy commissioner (DC) of Lalbagh.
